Cranksgiving brought in a half-ton of food!

Cranksgiving Topeka 2025 raised more than $500 and brought in 1,131 lbs. of food for Doorstep Inc. and local Blessing Boxes! WOW, what a great effort by our Bike and Walk Topeka community!

About 20 riders left from Blackbird Espresso Bar & Bistro and traveled to Apple Market to purchase food.

Riders had bags, boxes, trailers, and cargo bikes for carrying food back to the starting point. The ride was about a mile from Blackbird to Apple Market through mostly neighborhood side roads. Photos by Sara O’Keeffe.

Ron from Doorstep shared about the organization before the ride. Just a few years ago, the nonprofit was giving out 800 lbs. of food every day to community members, but now, they give out more than 1100 lbs. of food every single day. Ron stressed the importance of high-protein, easy-to-prepare foods for donations.

Cranksgiving events all over the country highlight food insecurity in our communities. One in five households experiences food insecurity; where families may not have enough resources or income for food.

Special thanks to all of the donors who made this food drive possible: Dave F., Rita K., Juliet S., Brian J., Eleanor M., Adam G., Alice B., Marj. M. (cash), Linda O. (cash), Leon F. (cash), Manya S., Kathy M., Danielle P., Kelley G., Anita F., the Pinto Family, Frito-Lay, HyVee Topeka, the many others who donated anonymously, and several riders who used some of their own funds. You all made this event happen and you supported Topeka families in need.

We’ll see you next year!
